Epcot's Canada Pavilion steakhouse has refreshed both of its menus. Five dishes are out and five are in, including a plant-based Caesar salad and a miso-roasted cabbage.
Le Cellier Steakhouse has changed five dishes on its lunch menu and the same five on its dinner menu. Each new dish sits in the same section as the one it replaces, mostly at the same price. This looks like a seasonal refresh rather than a rethink.
The Land Greens Salad becomes a Caesar Salad. The Heritage Chicken becomes a Roasted Chicken. The Roasted Cauliflower "Steak" becomes a Miso-roasted Cabbage. The Seafood Cioppino becomes an Almond-Crusted Salmon. The Boutique Collection dessert becomes a Butter Tart.
One steak has a new name as well. The 12-oz New York Strip is now the 12-oz Prime New York Strip Steak. Same cut, same $62, same choice of a side and a sauce.
The Caesar salad. This is the one to know about if you eat plant-based. Disney makes it with a plant-based Caesar dressing, so there is no anchovy, and the salad itself is leaves, radish and pine nuts. That also makes it work for low-carb and keto. It is not low-FODMAP, though. Going plant-based takes the anchovy out of a Caesar dressing, not the garlic.
The miso-roasted cabbage. This is the new vegetable main, replacing the cauliflower steak. It is vegetarian. Vegan is less certain. Every ingredient Disney names is plant-based, but a restaurant mushroom gravy is usually finished with butter or cream. Worth asking before you order.
The almond-crusted salmon. It comes with celery root tapioca. Tapioca is a starch, so this is not a low-carb or keto plate, even though it sounds like one.
The roasted chicken. It is served on farro. Farro is a wheat grain, so this one is out if you avoid gluten.
